It's Fine To Be Scared

Hello lovely readers. Today I’m talking about being scared as an adult. As children we are scared of lots of things: the dark, monsters under the bed/in the closet, the weird old man from Grizzly Tales For Gruesome Kids (if you don’t know who I’m talking about, trust me he was terrifying). But as adults we feel like we shouldn’t be afraid and admitting we’re scared is like admitting defeat.

Which, when you think about it, is really really silly. Adults have so many pressures placed on them on a daily basis, jobs, marriage, babies and so many other things play on our mind every day. These things can cause many of us a lot of fear but we don’t feel that we can admit that. But being scared is something that all adults have to deal with from time to time.

Its fine to a: feel scared and b: to admit it. Frankly I’m scared s**tless, scared I’m never going to find a job, scared of the future, scared of not living up to my potential and scared of not having the life I want for myself. But I can admit that and I am willing to place money on their being a lot of other people who feel the same way.

Being scared does not equal being a coward, being scared but carrying on is exactly what it means to be brave. Admitting that you’re frightened is not being a coward either, telling someone you are afraid is a great way of relieving (if only by a little) those feelings. When we admit we are feeling scared we also find out that other people feel the same way, it’s always comforting to know that you are not alone.

It’s important to remember that you are never too old to be afraid and being scarfed is perfectly normal. And sometimes admitting you’re scared is the best way to start feeling better.

I hope you all enjoyed this post and that it might have helped anyone who may be feeling a little scared.

What do you think about being scared as an adult?

Thanks for reading!

  1. Ella, I loved this post! I am seriously scared of everything in my life and I swear it gets worse the older I get! It's so true we all go through it and I think suppressing it is where you can get the bad emotional issues such as anxiety or hypertension! We all want to be perfect and are afraid we are going to mess up or miss our opportunities. I love that you write posts like this, it always reminds me we're all here dealing with the same things! Love you, hope you are having a great week so far my gorgeous friend! XO -Kim
