Is It Good To Love Yourself?

Loving yourself, is it practical or egotistical? Vain or intelligent? I'm going to explore the ways that loving yourself may be an advantage in everyday life. I will not only be talking about loving your body and outer appearance but loving what's inside of you.


Loving yourself in my opinion is one of the best things you can do but it's also one of the hardest. Everyday people, both men and women are bombarded with negativity regarding their body shape, with body shapes coming in and out of style as often as clothes. One day we are made to believe that being slim is the ideal shape, the next it's being curvy with a big booty. Magazines and TV tells us "how to get (insert any celebrity name) body in 4 weeks". Then in the next breath we are being told to love our body for just how it is, with this double standard in popular culture it's no wonder people find it hard to love the body they are in.

Learning to love the body you are in will greatly improve your life, you'll become more confident and it'll be easier to learn to role your eyes and ignore the media telling you what your body should look like. The truth is if you can breathe and can do the things you enjoy without difficulty, you have the perfect body shape. As long as you feel happy and healthy in yourself, you are the perfect size. Don't spend your years trying to get the body of the model on the front cover of Vogue, most of the body shapes people aspire to have do not exist, oh the dangerous powers of photoshopping! Everyday wake up, look at yourself and smile, be grateful that you have you have your health. Look at yourself at think "hot damn I look fine", it's not being vain it's giving yourself the confidence the media would try to take from you.

It's not just our bodies we need to learn to love but our personalities as well. Many of us spend too much time comparing ourselves to others, or trying to be the person someone else wants us to be. Once to love to learn yourself your life will start to fall more into place, you'll start focusing on your ambitions, your relationships, your dreams. Put simply you'll start focusing on your life and stop worrying what people think of you, as long as you are happy with who you are no other opinion matters.
Gaining a respect and appreciation for yourself will also mean that you won't let others try to put you down. You'll know what you deserve and how you deserve to be treated. Meaning that anyone who doesn't treat you with that respect you'll show them where to go meaning that you will remove yourself from people who try and make you feel bad about yourself. Ultimately meaning that you will have relationships with people who try to raise you up rather than tear you down.

Loving yourself does not equal being egotistical and vain, if anything it means that you'll also be able to love other people, by love I mean supporting them and make them see the good in themselves. You'll encourage people and be happy for them when they succeed because you'll know that everyone deserves the best in life. In my opinion the people who see others as competitors and hate seeing others do well are the people who have no confidence in themselves, if these people loved themselves they would not be threatened by the success of others.

So love yourself, accept your flaws, adore your strengths, know that you deserve the best that life has to offer and so does everybody else.
