Battling Fear

Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany's called them the "mean reds", that feeling you get sometimes of being afraid and not knowing exactly why or what of . Unfortunately going to look around Tiffany's when this feeling comes over is not an option for most of us. However these are my tips on what to do when the mean reds hit you that don't involve catching a flight to New York to visit that prestigious store.


1. Looking at photos 
Looking at images of places you want to go, clothes you want to buy or things you are looking forward to is a miracle worker. When I look at photos of what I love or am looking forward to means that I get so excited that there is no place in my head for the fear.
2. Breathe! 
Breathing deeply will help cleanse your body, try going outside if you can. Fresh air really is nature's miracle elixir, it can make you feel so much calmer in seconds. Meaning the mean reds will soon be gone.


3. Put On A Funny Film Or Song
If you are listening to or watching something completely silly it's hard to stay scared, you're too busy laughing. I don't know why but putting on Eminem's Just Lose It and trying to rap along makes me feel so much better. Probably because I forget about my fear while I'm laughing at my terrible rapping skills.


4. Visualise Something or Someone That Inspires You
For me it's usually Audrey Hepburn, Peter Gabriel or Malala Yousafzai . Imagine someone who you admire or inspires you and make them the focus of your attention. You'll soon become too inspired or motivated to let the mean reds win.

5. Create Something
One of the greatest things humans have is the ability to create, so set about making something new. Be it a new recipe, a painting, knitting a woolly hat, anything. You'll be distracted from your fear by concentrating on doing your best to create something beautiful.

But always remember that it is totally fine to be scared with all the things we have to deal with on a daily basis it's totally understandable that adults get scared just as much as children do.
